The purpose of the Psychological Consultation is to provide information, guidance, and support in relation to the many psychological and emotional aspects of the short and long-term decisions and considerations involved when trying to have a child through third party reproductive assistance or when planning to donate embryos remaining from a prior fertility treatment cycle. In accordance with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine's Standards of Care and Practice Guidelines, fertility clinics typically require a psychological consultation appointment when third party assistance is involved.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Psychological Consultation appointment take?
A psychological consultation involves a 50-minute clinical interview and an additional hour of report writing time by the psychologist.
How do I schedule a Psychological Consultation appointment?
Please call me at (503) 913-4791 or email me at Brittadinsmo[email protected] to inquire about availability and so that we can explore whether I would be a good fit for your needs. If you do not reach me directly, it is helpful to provide information about days and times you are available for a return call and for the consultation appointment.
How much does a Psychological Consultation Appointment cost?
Can I use insurance for the Psychological Consultation?
No---due to the fact that the consult does not involve diagnosing or treating a mental health condition, which is what insurance companies typically require to reimburse for services. If you believe your insurance plan is an exception, I am happy to provide you with paperwork to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement directly to you. However, I will still need to collect full payment at the time of service.
If I have a partner, do both of us need to attend the Psychological Consultation?
Yes, if you are a recipient or intended parent pursuing fertility treatment and are married, have a significant other, or are otherwise pursuing treatment as part of a couple, both you and your partner must participate in the consultation. If you are donating embryos, both members of a couple who participated in creating the embryos (whether genetically linked to the embryos or not) must participate in the consultation.
Will the Psychological Consultation be conducted in person or remotely?
Due to health and safety concerns posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic, all services are being provided virtually at this time through use of a HIPAA-compliant video platform.
Do I need to prepare ahead of time or bring anything to the Psychological Consultation appointment?
Prior to your appointment, please download, complete, and return the Informed Consent and Intake forms. Other than that, you do not need to prepare for the appointment, as the appointment itself is an opportunity to discuss and explore the relevant issues.
What if I need to cancel my Pre-cycle Psychological Consultation appointment?
To avoid a late cancellation fee, I require 48 hours cancellation notice (phone or e-mail) for appointments, except in cases of illness, true emergency, or a cycle-related necessity. Outside of these instances, the late cancellation fee is $50 for a late cancellation/no-show.
